Webster sweeps SLIAC Baseball Player of Week Awards

(St. Louis, Mo.) – Webster University’s Andrew Fuiten (Decatur, Ill./Lincoln College) and Wes Hilliard (Lindale, Tex./Lindale) were named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Association for the week of April 28-May 4.
Fuiten, a junior outfielder, went 10-for-17 at the plate for a .588 batting average in five games played last week. He tallied four doubles, two home runs and two runs batted-in to help the Gorloks to a 4-1 record for the week.
Fuiten had at least one hit in all five games last week, including four, multi-hit games. He also hit a pair of home runs against Illinois College and Principia to extend his school record to 12.
Hilliard, a senior pitcher, allowed one run on seven hits and walked one in a 17-2 victory versus Principia College last week. He also had five strikeouts in 5.0 complete innings of work and improved to 5-1 overall on the mound.
The Gorloks (27-13, 21-3 SLIAC) won the regular season conference championship and will go for its fourth consecutive SLIAC Tournament crown beginning this Thursday, May 8, against Greenville College at 7 p.m. at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
