(St. Louis, Mo.) – Webster’s Kelsey Washam (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) was named as an at large selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-Midwest Region as announced by the NFCA on Tuesday. Dana Vahey (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West) and Maria Hibbard (Rhinelander, Wisc./Three Lakes) were named to the second and third teams respectively.
Washam, a junior shortstop, led WU and the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in almost every offensive category this past season while rewriting the offensive record books at Webster. She finished the season batting a league high .455 with school records in home runs (15), doubles (16) and RBIs (53). Her slugging percentage of 1.064 was over 300 points higher than the second place finisher while her .551 on base percentage was sixty points higher than the individual in second place. Washam will now move onto the national ballot for possible All-American honors.
Vahey, a junior catcher, was named an at large selection on the second team. She ended the season leading the Gorloks in runs scored with 41 and stolen bases 26 and was second on the team with nine home runs, seven doubles and 24 RBIs.
Hibbard, a senior outfielder, was an at large selection on the third team. She finished the season second on the team with a .375 batting average and tied for second in hits with 45 and stolen bases with 18.
