Cross Country Teams Splash Through Gibson Invitational

The Webster University men and women's cross-country teams participated in the Gibson Family Invitational in Terre Haute, IN on October 10.  The teams had notable performances despite slow-running conditions with standing water on the course.

The freshmen duo of Jessica Parkman (Peru HS, IN), running in her home state, and Jane McGibben (Lindbergh HS, STL) finished in the top two spots for the Gorlok women in their fourth straight race.  Parkman finished in 26:25 and 86th place while McGibben finished right behind at 26:30 in 87th place, to put them in the middle of the field of 172 runners.

Senior Candace Barry (McCluer South HS, STL) finished in 29:38 (147th), Francee VanGennip (JR, Woodland HS, MO) in 30:40 (160th) and Jenny Venegoni (SR, Bishop DuBourg, STL) in 31:49 (167th).

On the men's side, freshman Blake Harris (O'Fallon HS, IL) finished in 29:59  and 146th in a field of 205 runners.  Harris has led the Gorloks in all four races this season.  Robert Hohensee (FR, Buffalo HS, MO) and Tony Morales (JR, Parkway West HS, STL) were seconds apart at 30:48 (161st) and 30:58 (164th).

David Koppelmann (FR, Owensville HS, MO) ran the race in 31:22 (172nd) and Aaron Obernaufmann (FR, Mt. Olive HS, IL) completed the team scoring at 33:26 (195th).  Junior David Lampe (Bishop DuBourg HS, STL) also finished for the Gorloks.

The Gibson Family Invitational is one of the premier running events in the Midwest.  Twenty-six colleges and over 500 runners gathered in Terre Haute for the event.  The field included nationally and regionally ranked NCAA II and III squads.

Both Webster cross-country teams will run next in the H. R. Wright Classic in Decatur, IL on October 16.
