Men's Soccer Lands Four on SLIAC All-Conference

Gamache and Rudroff Earn First-Team Honors

Four Webster University men's soccer members were named to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2009 All-Conference Team.  Leading the way for the Gorloks were seniors Kyle Gamache (Francis Howell Central HS, STL) and Andy Rudroff (DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL), who both earned first-team honors.

Gamache, one of the leaders of a stout Webster defense that allowed 21 goals in 18 games, was a second-team selection in 2008.  Rudroff was a first-team selection all four years he wore the Gorlok and scored 10 goals, six in the last six games, to lead the team this season.  He finished with career totals of 20 goals (tied-seventh Webster all-time high), 20 assists (tied-fourth), and 60 points (fifth).

Senior goalkeeper Matt Geringer (Hazelwood Central HS, STL) and junior Kyle Leifield (Marquette HS, STL) were named to the second-team.  Geringer was named the Most Valuable Player of the SLIAC Conference Tournament and posted eight wins, including five shutouts. He was also an all-conference selection in 2008.

Mike Riti (SR, Webster Groves HS, STL), Mike Politte (JR, St. Francis Borgia HS, MO), and Matt Mantia (JR, Webster Groves HS, STL), received honorable mention.  Riti netted six goals for the Gorloks and his 21 career goals, in only two seasons, ties him for fifth on the all-time Webster list.  Politte had three goals and Mantia provided solid defense in the midfield.

These post-season honors followed a 7-1 record in the SLIAC, and a second place finish.  Voting took place before the Gorloks upset defending champs Greenville College on the road, to claim the 2009 tournament championship and securing an NCAA berth.
