Bolstered again by its resilient defense, Webster University men's soccer team won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship, 1-0, at Greenville College (IL), on November 7.  The win sends the Gorloks to the NCAA III championships for the first time since 2005.

Senior Andy Rudroff (DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL), scored to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead at the 16:00 mark .  In the second half, with the wind at its back, Greenville applied constant pressure, taking nine corner kicks in the process.  The Webster defense and GK Matt Geringer (Hazelwood Central HS, STL) made the one goal stand up for the victory.

For their efforts, Rudroff and Geringer were named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team, with Geringer taking home the Most Valuable Player award.  Senior Mike Riti (Webster Groves HS, STL) and junior Eric Fuchs (Vianney HS, STL) were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Gorloks continue to mount an outstanding turnaround to their 2009 season.  Starting with a 3-0 victory over Westminster College on September 26, head coach Marty Todt's 200th career victory, the team is 10-1.  In that stretch, it has outscored opponents 32-8 with six shutouts.

Webster waits word on where first round of the NCAA tournament will land the team.  Pairings for the tournament will be announced at 9:00 a.m. on the NCAA website ( http://www.ncaa.com/sports/c-soccer/champpage/c-soccer-div3-index.html).
