Senior softball player Sam Dittmann (St. Pius X HS, STL)) represented Webster University as Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members from St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools took the “Polar Plunge” at Lake St. Louis on February 6.
Dittmann, six SAAC members from Westminster College, and conference commissioner Will Wolper, hit the frigid water. The Polar Plunge 2010 was staged to benefit the Special Olympics Missouri. This year over $100, 000 was raised by 443 “plungers” who submerged themselves in Lake St. Louis in 30 degree temperatures. This year’s event was sponsored 92.3 WIL, Shop N’ Save, and the Outback Steakhouse at Winghaven.
Dittman serves as President of the Webster SAAC. The SAAC gives student-athletes a voice within the athletic department, the university and the conference. The SAAC strives to protect the welfare of the student–athlete and creating a positive image for student-athletes. This is accomplished by being involved in campus activities and community service initiatives like the Polar Plunge.
At a meeting later that day, Alex Meyer (JR, Effingham HS, IL, women's tennis) was elected Vice-President of the SLIAC SAAC for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Other members of the Webster Athletics community in attendance at the Plunge were Merry Graf, Senior Women’s Administrator and SAAC Advisor, Jesse Schellerup (SR, Howell Central HS, STL, women’s soccer), and Meyer.
