Webster University Athletics had four student/athletes honored as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for March 22-28. Tennis players
Ricky Eaves and
Allison Tungate, baseball player
Anthony Genna, and softball player
Megan Sperry all had standout performances on the week.
Eaves, a sophomore from Florissant, MO, (McCluer North HS), has been named the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Eaves went 2-0 in both singles and doubles action last week. He posted a 7-6, 7-5 win at #3 singles and an 8-5 win at #3 doubles in the Gorloks 6-3 loss to Missouri Baptist University. He then recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #2 singles and an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles in an 8-1 win vs. Fontbonne University.
Tungate, a sophomore from Flora, IL, (Flora HS) has been named the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Tungate went undefeated at #3 singles last week. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory vs. Greenville College, a 6-0, 6-0 victory vs. Fontbonne University and a 6-2, 6-1 victory vs. Concordia University (NE). In doubles action, Tungate went 2-1 with an 8-5 win at #1 doubles vs. Greenville and an 8-2 win at #2 doubles vs. Fontbonne. The Gorloks went 2-1 on the week, with 8-1 victories vs. Greenville and Fontbonne.
Genna, a junior from Willow Springs, IL, (Lyons Township HS), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week. Genna, a third baseman, had a .625 batting average in four games played last week. He was 10-for-16 with seven runs scored, four RBI and two doubles, while helping the Gorloks go 4-0 on the week. In a 2-1 win vs. North Park University, Genna doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the ninth and scored the game winner. He went two for three with a double and run scored in game two of the double header, a 2-0 win. Genna added a seven for nine performance with three RBI and five runs scored in a DH win vs. Eureka College.
Sperry, a senior from Clarkston, MI, (Clarkston HS) has been named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. This marks the second time she has earned the honor this season. Sperry, a right-handed pitcher, threw a complete game in a 5-1 victory vs. Greenville College. In seven innings she allowed four hits, three walks, one run, and struck out seven to improve to 4-1 on the season.
