Accolades continue to accumulate for the Webster University men's baseball team as four players have been named to the 2010 Rawlings ABCA All-Central Team. Will Savage and Victor Valdez, both seniors from Benet Academy in IL, were first team selections. David Mueller (SO, Westminster Christian Academy, STL) was named to the second team, and Craig Schaefer (JR, Carterville HS, IL, was named to the third team.
Savage had a senior season distinguished by several all-time single season records set, and for landing in the top ten in several others for the season, and for his career. Savage had the lowest ERA (1.52) in a season, tied for most wins (9), and was second in strikeouts (72). He also moved into the #3 spot for career totals for ERA (3.23), wins (16), and strikeouts (151). Savage was selected CoSIDA All-District Second Team, NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team, and was a SLIAC First Team All-Conference and SLIAC All-Tournament Team pick as well.
Valdez had an offensive year like no other in Gorlok history, setting season highs in HRs (16) and RBIs (70), and tying for third in hits (67), runs (52, at-bats (174), and triples (3). The 16 home runs tied him for fifth on the Webster careeer list. He was named to the NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team, and was a SLIAC Honorable Mention All-Conference and SLIAC All-Tournament Team pick as well.
Mueller had an impressionable start to his Gorlok career, going 8-1 with a 2.08 ERA, and 63 strikeouts. The eight wins ties him for fourth on the single season all-time list for Webster, and his ERA and strikeout totals are the fourth highest as well. He was a SLIAC Second Team All-Conference selection.
Schaefer batted .345, with nine HRs, 41 RBIs, and 41 runs scored. He was second on the team in total bases (100) and his 175 at-bats were the third most in a single season in team history. Schaefer was a SLIAC Second Team All-Conference selection.
