Webster University women's soccer player, Maria Arias, has been selected for the roster of the Costa Rica U-20 National Team. The team will be competing in the FIFA 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup, from July 13 through August 1, in Germany.
Arias, a sophomore from San Jose, Costa Rica, is one of three goalkeepers chosen for the Costa Rica World Cup roster. After participating in soccer in high school at The Lincoln School in Costa Rica, she joined the Gorloks as a freshman in Fall 2009. Arias recorded two shutouts while posting a 1.14 goals against average for the season. The Gorloks were 2-0 in complete games in the nets for Arias, and 6-0 in games she shared the goal with teammate Shelby Wade.
The Costa Ricans first round match will be against the host country Germany on July 13 in Bochum. They will also face France and Colombia in their group. The U-20 World Cup final is on August 1 in Bielefeld, Germany.
