Volleyball Awarded 2009 AVCA Team Academic Award

The Webster University women’s volleyball team has been named a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the second straight year.  This award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. The Gorloks qualified by maintaining a cumulative 3.38 team grade point average for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The volleyball team has matched its academic excellence with its performance on the court.  In fall 2009 they won a third straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship and a fourth straight conference tournament.  The Gorloks completed a perfect 16-0 SLIAC record for a second straight year, and ended the season with a 38-game conference win streak.  The team also made its fourth appearance in a row in the NCAA Division III Championships.  Webster is coached by Merry Graf, who will be entering her tenth season this fall.
