The 2010 Webster volleyball squad will look to continue its domination of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. In 2009, they won a third straight SLIAC regular season championship and a fourth straight conference tournament. The Gorloks completed a perfect 16-0 SLIAC record for a second straight year, and ended the season with a 38-game conference win streak. The team also made its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships. 

The Gorloks return 13 players including seven seniors. Mary Jo Schweitzer (Parkway Central HS, STL), led the team with 36 aces and added 165 kills and 315 digs. Sarah Bailey (Columbia HS, IL), who led the Gorloks with 468 digs last year, returns to quarterback the defense. Schweitzer and Bailey were SLIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selections in 2009.

Jackie Novak (Timberland HS, MO) a 5’8 setter, brings experience running the offense and tallied 324 assists in 2009. Right side attacker, Missy Repking (Hazelwood Central HS, STL), adds valuable experience with 126 games played at Webster. Kylie Schweiss (Meramec CC) played defense in 2009 and may see an opportunity to attack this year. Erin Prince (Rend Lake CC) brings a strong jump serve and Mary Withouse (Belle HS, MO) offers depth on offense.

Other returnees for the Gorloks are hitters, Kelly McClure (Fulton HS, MO) and Lindsay Morris (Seckman HS, STL), and defensive specialists Jennifer Hoerber (Fulton HS, MO) and Elizabeth Linck (Hazelwood West HS, STL). Setter Sami Murray (Columbia HS, IL) and hitter Brittany Ruess (Mehlville HS, STL) return as well.
 
Newcomers joining the Gorloks this season are transfers Brittany Sinclair (Mineral Area CC), setter, right side attacker Jessa Maier (Triad HS, IL), outside hitter Gretchen Rieger (Lincoln CC), and middle hitter Caroline Kargus (Meramec CC). Freshmen recruits include Liz Abraham (Hermann HS, MO), Diana Haynes (Civic Memorial HS, IL), Rachel Kaufer (South Tahoe HS, NV), Lindsey Taylor (Rockwood Summit HS, STL) and Shanna Young (St. Charles HS, STL), all attackers. Carson Heidbreder (Rantoul HS, IL) adds depth to the setting position.
 
This year’s schedule includes tournaments at Rhodes College in Memphis and at perennial national power, Washington University. Webster will also compete in 12 junior varsity matches this season. In the past nine seasons, coach Merry Graf’s squads have compiled an impressive 179-87 record overall and a 111-16 record in the SLIAC. The Gorloks have posted a 72-4 (.947) SLIAC league record over the last five seasons. The 2010 edition of the volleyball Gorloks hope to continue this level of success.
