Men's Soccer Earn Tie at Volgas Memorial Classic

'The Webster University men’s soccer team ground out a 1-1 tie vs. Millsaps College at the Greg Volgas Memorial Classic in Memphis, TN, on September 4. An Alex Cupp (JR, Lutheran South HS, STL) diving save on a Millsaps penalty kick at the 9:00 mark, after the Majors had already pulled to a 1-0 lead, was a momentum changer in the contest.

The Gorloks kept the deficit at one and tied the game at the 85:00 mark on an own goal by Millsaps credited to junior Shea Vogt (Marquette HS, STL). The teams headed to a double overtime format, and after two 10-minute periods, remained deadlocked. Webster is 0-1-1 on the young season.

Webster made a remarkable one-game turnaround, after a rough opener, against Millsaps of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The SCAC, one of the more competitive NCAA III conferences, boasts Trinity University (TX), Colorado College, and DePauw University (IN) as members.  The Gorloks take on another SCAC member, host Rhodes College, on September 5 to conclude the Classic.

The men travel to Jacksonville, IL, to play Illinois College on September 8, before returning home on September 11-12 to host Concordia College (IL) and Augustana College (IL).
