Howard Sets Two Records, Lopez Bids Adieu

Jenny Howard (Duchesne HS) eclipsed two of her own marks in the Webster University track record books. running her fastest times in the 100M dash and the 200M dash, at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, IL, on May 11.

Howard ran a 12.53 in the 100M dash, beating her best time of 12.39 by .15 of a second.  The finish placed her sixth out of 29 runners in the field that included participants from some of the top NCAA III programs in the Midwest, hoping for one more chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

In the 200M dash, Howard finished in 25.70, beating her previous high of 26.04 by over three tenths of a second.  That was good enough for a 12th place finish out of 40 runners.

Also running events for the Gorloks was Eroica Stackhouse (SO, Tipton HS, IN).  Not running her best times in the 800M and 1500M runs, Stackhouse still managed to post respectable times.  In the 800M, she ran a 2.36.66, her fifth bes the career time.  Stackhouse then ran a 5.12.99 in the 1500M, finishing in her third best time for her young career.

The participation at North Central brings to an end Head Coach Dusty Lopez' tenure heading the men's and women's track and field teams at Webster.  Lopez started the program from scratch five years ago and a national search for his replacement is in full throttle.  Lopez and his family will be relocating to Michigan, and he will stay involved with track by helping out with the track staff at the University of Michigan this coming fall.

Athletic Director Tom Hart thanked Lopez  for his dedication and service in starting up the program, and building up the cross country program as well, at the Department's annual awards banquet at Grant Gymnasium on May 9.  Lopez was named the SLIAC Cross Country Coach of the Year after the women's team won the SLIAC Championships last fall.
