Season Outlook - Golf
The 2007-2008 Webster Golf team enters the year looking to regain the title of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champs that they had three years ago! This year’s team has a mix of returning and new players whose main goal is to win.
Leading the way this year are Andy Ahlering and Allen Heeger. Ahlering, a junior from St. Louis, MO was named First Team All-Conference and Newcomer of the Year last year during his first season with the Gorloks. Heeger, a junior from Union, MO is one of this year’s team captains and was a First Team All-Conference selection last season finishing second at the SLIAC Conference Tournament. Both know that they must perform their best if the Gorloks hope to succeed in the coming season. One of the new faces joining the Gorloks for the upcoming campaign is Juan Bernardo Proano, a freshman from Quito, Ecuador. The future of the Gorlok golf program looks bright with the addition of this young man to the squad.
This fall the team will learn very quickly about playing under extremely competitive conditions. Coach Andrew Belsky emphasizes that trips to Hartford, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois “will show the team what we must do to improve our games so that we can compete not only at the conference level but also the regional and national levels. With new changes to NCAA rules giving golf an automatic qualifier into the National Tournament we must begin preparing ourselves for the Conference Tournament right away.”
“The program is being built around the hard work of a core group of guys,” says Belsky. “This continued commitment to excellence will lead the team to a point where the sky is the limit.”
