The 2009 Webster volleyball squad looks to continue their domination of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The 2008 Gorloks earned their third straight conference bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the SLIAC tournament. Running unscathed through the conference schedule, the Gorloks finished 16-0 in the SLIAC and 23-6 overall.
The three straight tournament victories were just the cap to a great season as the Gorloks have now won 22 consecutive SLIAC contests and have compiled a 72-4 (.947) league record over the last five seasons.
The Gorloks return thirteen players including four seniors. Jackie Schall (Oakville) 2008 First Team All SLIAC, led the team with 227 kills and ranks seventh all-time at Webster with 751 kills. Abby Williams (Incarnate Word) Second Team All SLIAC, returns to quarterback the offense. Williams is fourth all-time with 1,633 assists in her career at Webster. Stefanie Larson (Delevan, Ill.) a 5’8 attacker played in 76 games for the Gorloks last season and will add power and speed to the front row. The Gorloks welcome back senior Kaylee Schaefer (Imperial, Mo./ Seckman). Schaefer played in 104 games during the 2006 seasons and recorded 114 total blocks.
Other returners for the Gorloks are juniors Mary Jo Schweitzer (Parkway Central), Missy Repking (Hazelwood Central), Sarah Bailey (Columbia, Ill.), Brittany Simons (Swansea, Ill./ Belleville West) and Jackie Novak (Dardene Prarie, Mo./ Timberland). Sophomore returners include Lindsay Morris (Imperial, Mo./Seckman), Kelly McClure (Fulton, Mo.), Elizabeth Linck (Hazelwood West) and Jennifer Hoerber (Fulton, Mo.).
Newcomers joining the Gorloks this season are transfers Kylie Schweiss (Fenton, Mo./ Meramec), Erin Prince (McLeansboro, Ill./ Rend Lake) and Mary Withouse (Belle, Mo./ Millikin). Freshman players are Sami Murray (Columbia, Ill.), Diana Thomas (New Orleans, LA/ Benjamin Franklin), Brittany Ruess (Mehlville), and Ashton Streif (Lebanon, Ill.).
