NSCAA Honors Women's Soccer for Team Ethics

The Webster University women's soccer team has been presented with a Bronze Team Ethics Award of Merit for 2011 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Bronze award is given by the Ethics Committee of the NSCAA to soccer teams that accumulate no red cards and have a maximum of 6-10 yellow cards throughout the season.

Track Opens Indoor Season at IC Snowbird

The Webster University men's and women's track and field teams had an opportunity to get the rust out, with the first action of the 2012 season at the Illinois College Snowbird Open indoor meet. A limited number of Gorloks for both squads participated in the event at Jacksonville, IL, on January 21, that was dominated by NAIA programs.

Gorloks Gobbled Up in Lion's Den

Taking a one-game hiatus from its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule, the Webster University men’s basketball team got a taste of NCAA II competition in a 78-57 loss at Lindenwood University on January 23. The Lions, who are transitioning to NCAA II from NAIA, were too much for the Gorloks to handle, as Webster saw its seven-game win streak end.

Gorloks Make It Seven in a Row VS Griffins, 84-69

Not letting its guard down on the road, the Webster University men’s basketball team completed the first half of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with an 84-69 win at Fontbonne University, on January 21. After an early Griffin lead, the Gorloks left little suspense as to the outcome in the normally spirited rivalry game.

Women's Basketball Falls at Fontbonne, 67-59

If there is such a thing as an ugly loss, the Webster University women’s basketball team suffered it at Fontbonne University, losing 67-59, on January 21. In a game where both teams combined for 46 turnovers and shot 29% in the first half, the Griffins prevailed.

Round One: Battle of Big Bend Set for Saturday

Round one of the 2011-12 "Battle of Big Bend," which pits both Gorlok basketball squads against SLIAC rival, Fontbonne University, takes place on Saturday, January 21, at Fontbonne. Divided only by four miles of Big Bend Avenue, there is something special when the two schools meet on the field of play. Not unlike the Cards-Cubs rivalry, no matter how the fortunes of the two teams are going that season, the games and the fans always make it a spirited affair.

Webster Men Jolts Greenville, 87-86

The Webster University men’s basketball team stayed perfect in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an electrifying win over Greenville College, 87-86, in Greenville, IL, on January 18. A layup by Stefan Whittingham (SO, Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) with: 05 on the clock gave Webster the victory. The Gorloks are now 7-0 in the league, with a firm hold on first place.

Gorloks Squeeze by Greenville, 50-46

Pulling out a hard-fought win on the road, the Webster University women’s basketball team beat Greenville College (IL), 50-46, on January 18. The victory improved the Gorloks record to 5-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
