Webster Women Downed 89-74 in Indiana

Lose to Denison in 1st Round of Anderson Tournament

The Webster University women's basketball team dropped a 89-74 decision to Denison University (OH), 89-74, on November 20.  The Gorloks first loss of the young season came in the first round of the Anderson (IN) Tournament.

There were positives for the Gorloks.  Guard Maggie Zehner (FR, Oakville HS, STL) had another solid performance (11 points, four rebounds), and junior guard Barissa Ford had 12 points and three steals.  Sophomore forward Ayrica Lockett (Crossroads Prep, STL) had 17 points and four rebounds.  As a team, Webster shot 50 percent from the field (31 for 62) for the game.

Denison took a 46-27 halftime lead, off the strength of 19 for 36 field goal shooting, and the Gorloks would come no closer.  The Gorloks hurt themselves at the free throw line, hitting only six of 17 attempts and Denison out-rebounded Webster 43-32.  Denison is no stranger to winning, finishing 19-7 in 2008-09, reeling off 16 straight wins at one point.

Webster will face host Anderson University on November 21.  Anderson lost to Muskingum College (OH) on a last second shot in the other first round game.
