The Webster University Athletics Department had a historical first on Saturday when they captured the Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, and Volleyball SLIAC Tournaments as well as the AQ's to the NCAA Tournament.
The men's soccer team began the day at noon with a matchup against regular season conference champs Greenville College. The lone goal of the day was scored by
Andy Rudroff in the 1st half, leading the Gorloks to a 1-0 victory.
Next up on the list of events was a 3:30 matchup at Principia College between the regular season champions and Webster University. Regulation time ended with a 1-1 tie and after 2 overtime periods the match had still not be resolved. After 5 penalty kicks the game was still tied after 3 goals per team. It wasn't until a 6th kick by Webster's
Jenna Steiner that the Gorloks captured the postseason title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
In the final thriller of the day Webster took on Greenville College at 7:00. Once again it took all 5 sets to decide the winner. Webster finally put away the match 15-13 in set 5 to gain their 40th straight SLIAC victory and their 4th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
This is the first time in Webster Athletics history that all 3 fall sports have advanced to the NCAA Championships in the same season.
Pairings for each tournament will be announced Monday morning. Check back at
