The Webster University men's basketball team lost to Cornell College (IA), 54-39, in the first round of the Webster Classic, on December 19 at Grant Gymnasium..
Webster shot a season-low 23 percent for the game, and are only shooting 39% from the field on the year. The Gorloks continue to play well defensively, as they wait for their offense to get untracked. Webster is holding its opponents to 41% shooting from the field, and are neck-in-neck in total rebounds.
Freshman
Cody Bradfisch (Jerseyville HS, IL) led all scorers in the game with 10 points. Webster had a season-high nine blocks in the contest, with three each by
Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL) and
Kevin Miller (FR, Belleville East HS, IL).
The Gorloks are now 3-6 on the season (1-1 SLIAC). Cornell improved to 8-1 as they were led by 6'11' senior center, Chris Hanke. Hanke had eight points and 12 rebounds as his presence around the basket didn't help the Gorloks shooting woes.
Webster will now take on Coe College (IA) in the second day of the classic on December 20. Coe dropped a 74-73 decision to Hendrix College (AR) in the first match of the classic. Cornell and Hendrix will also face each other in second day action.
