The inaugural class for the Webster University Athletics Hall of Fame was inducted on January 30. The late Harry J. Cargas, Pat McSheehy, Jeff Reis, Niki (Martinez) Tedoni, and Jerelyn (Guelker) Valin were honored in a ceremony at Grant Gymnasium. A reception was held in the University's Alumni House afterward.
Each member was introduced by Director of Athletics, Tom Hart, and was presented with a crystal Hall of Fame award by Webster President, Dr. Beth Stroble. In addition, each Hall of Famer received a Webster University Athetics lettermen's jacket. On hand to receive the award for Cargas was his wife, Millie, and daughter Sarita, who is an Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences.
At the conclusion of the basketball game, the Hall of Fame class gathered at the Alumni House for a reception for their families, former coaches, and athletic department personnel. Various representatives spoke about the individual inductees' accomplishments, and what made them Hall of Fame members.
A Hall of Fame banner was unveiled at the ceremony, held at halftime of the men's basketball game vs. MacMurray College. The banner listed the class of 2010 and its individual members, and new classes of inductees will be added. The Hall of Fame banner is on permanent display in Grant Gymnasium and is hung above the west entrance. Consideration is being given to creating a permanent Hall of Fame display.
