Stefan Whittingham, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale HS (FL), has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week of January 9-15. This marks the second time he has earned the honor for the 2011-12 season.
Whittingham, a 6'3 forward, averaged 20 points and over eight rebounds for three games, and shot 59.5% (25-42) from the field. He shot 50% (4-8) from three-point range and 85.7% (6-7) from the free throw line in three SLIAC victories last week. He started the week with a double-double in a 99-83 win, on the road, at Eureka College. Whittingham scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while shooting 11-22 from the field and 4-6 from behind the arc. He also dished out five assists and added a steal in the win.
Whittingham added 18 points on 7-10 shooting, and pulled down five rebounds, in a 74-65 victory against MacMurray College. He finished the week with another double-double in a 96-86 win over Principia College, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, also picking up three assists, a block ,and a steal.
