Three Gorloks Take Home POW Honors

Three Webster University student/athletes were honored as St. Louis Intercollegiate Players of the Week for March 8-14.  Megan Sperry (SR, Clarkston HS, MI), pitcher for the women's softball team, and men's baseball pitcher Bryan Stanley (SR, Larkin HS, IL) and outfielder Victor Valdez (SR, Benet Academy, IL) were selected.

Sperry, from Clarkston, MI, was named the SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 8-14.  Sperry, a left-handed hurler, went 2-1 in three appearances on the mound last week. She recorded a 2.33 ERA and had six strikeouts as the Gorloks went 3-5 on the week. She pitched a complete game victory and had three strikeouts in a 5-4 win versus the College of St. Benedict (MN).  She finished the week with another complete game victory and two strikeouts in a 4-1 win versus Albion College (MI).  

Stanley
, from Larkin, IL, was named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 8-14.  Stanley, a right-handed pitcher, went 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA in four relief appearances last week. He allowed four earned runs, nine hits and two walks in 10.0 innings of work, while striking out six batters.  Stanley recorded the win and four strikeouts in 2 1/.3 innings in Webster's 2-1 victory versus Benedictine University (IL). He also recorded the win and two strikeouts in 3 innings of work versus Mt. Union College (OH).

Valdez, from Wheaton, IL, was named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 8-14.  He posted a .400 batting average in five games last week, going 10-for-25 with three doubles, one triple, one home run, four runs scored and four RBI, as Webster went 3-2 for the week.  Valdez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base in the Gorloks 2-1 victory versus Benedictine University (IL).

He added two hits, including a triple, a run scored, and an RBI in a 7-4 win over St. Mary's College (NY), and finished the week with two hits, including a home run, and two RBI in a 14-7 win versus Mt. Union College.
